Job Summary
The Production Manager will oversee the manufacturing/fabrication process to ensure fabrication equipment is running smoothly and efficiently. They will work closely with Supervisors and other departments to plan work and set targets. In addition, the Production Manager will monitor all products for quality assurance as efficiently as possible while adhering to corporate health and safety policies.
Principal Responsibilities
- Oversee production department personnel, including ensuring all employees are up-to-date on operating procedures and new equipment
- Prepare operating and fabrication reports to summarize production, downtime, and variance by machine and shift
- Identify performance issues and formulate action plans to rectify problems. Delegate responsibilities as required
- Coordinate fabrication schedules to meet customer demands, manage overtime, minimize inventories and overall production costs
- Manage production department budget
- Monitor production indicators (Hydra, Transition reports, Shift Performance Summary, and Cycle Times) to drive improvements in safety, quality and costs of production
- Identify and resolve root causes of all non-conformances and scrap with all fabrication departments, as well as discrepancies for work orders
- Ensure daily shipping requirements are met by Shipping Supervisor
- Drive improvements in production standards
- Ensure all production runs are following the Approved Compounds/Components List, Quality Control Manual, and ISO procedures
- Provide environmental metrics for inclusion into the Aliaxis Quarterly Environmental Reports
- Manage the storage and disposal of all ancillary and process facility non-hazardous solid waste (recycled paper, cardboard, wood, plastics, regular landfill)
- Assist with hiring of Production personnel as required
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- Completion of college and/or university in engineering or manufacturing, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 8 years of progressive leadership experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Prior experience participating in a Health and Safety Committee is an asset
- Experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, employee relations, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources
- Prior experience with ISO 9001 an asset
- Proven track record of improving performance in a leadership role
- Technical understanding of production planning techniques, current quality standards, lean manufacturing and safety requirements/laws (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.)
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental practices in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge and ability to understand the process of machinery
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and good general computer skills
