Summary:
At Harcros Chemicals Inc., an employee-owned company with a rich legacy in specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution, we're continuously expanding. With 2 manufacturing plants and 27 distribution facilities across 20 states, we're seeking a dedicated Chemical Operator to join our team to assist with opportunities. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this role will load, unload, move materials and fill containers within plant.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
- Load and unload materials from trucks, railcars, and tanks, including liquid caustic and ammonia.
- Operate forklifts and electric hoists to assist in loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
- Fill drums and totes with caustic solutions.
- Contribute to the production of aqua ammonia and 25% caustic.
- Safely handle hazardous materials, ensuring proper documentation such as waste manifests, inspection logs, and other reports are maintained.
- Assist with spill responses and hazardous waste storage management, following site emergency and contingency plans.
- Comply with all safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs) during material handling and hazardous waste tasks.
- Other job duties assigned.
- Job duties may also result in:
- Generate, handle, and/or inspect hazardous waste and hazardous waste storage.
- Respond or manage hazardous waste spills and incidents based on the site’s emergency action or contingency plan.
- Prepare and manage hazardous waste records such as manifests, inspection logs, waste determination and other reports.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 5 years of related experience and/or training.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Required Skills We Are Looking For:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or video presentation.
- Problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Physical Capabilities & Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds regularly, 50 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects or tools, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to hazardous fumes or odors.
- Noise level is moderate to loud.
- Will frequently work in outdoor weather conditions.
