POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Human Resource Manager, the Human Resource Specialist provides expert consultation and professional advice to members of management, assistance to hourly Team Members and engages in a variety of positive Team Member initiatives. This is a mid-level, exempt position.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direction, coaching, and advising to management in interpreting and communicating Hard Rock’s Employee Relations (ER) policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to resolving Team Member issues.
- Must be able to speak confidently to upper management and corporate HR.
- Maintain a working knowledge of industry best practices and be knowledgeable of changing laws pertaining to Human Resources.
- Communicates daily and weekly terminations with appropriate departments and processes in HR Systems.
- Conducts Team Member related investigations, especially extremely sensitive issues of sexual harassment and discrimination.
- Coordinates Team Member assistant programs, Sunshine fund, food drive and Adopt a Family.
- Conducts termination meetings for Supervisor level Team Members and below.
- Plans and executes a variety of Team Member events.
- Function as the Employer Representative for all unemployment appeals and assist with unemployment claims.
- Prepare for and participate in Team Member Board of Reviews.
- Assists in the design and coordination of Team Member programs designed to improve or maintain morale and engagement.
- Assist in the preparation of the Employee Relations budget on an annual basis.
- Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within area of responsibility.
- Maintain an important level of confidentiality.
- Conducts themselves in accordance with all Virginia Lottery Gaming Commission Regulations and Hard Rock’s departmental policies and procedures.
- Other assignments as directed.

- This is a high-pressure environment, which can be stressful for some and viewed as demanding to most.

Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum qualifications is a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of Human Resource work experience.
- In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a candidate may have 4 years of Human Resource experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- PHR/SPHR Certification preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software specifically in Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
- Must be computer literate.
- Direct Employee Relations experience preferred.
- Experience working in a high volume traffic and fast paced environment preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Excellent telephone etiquette required.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Virginia Lottery regulations.
- Prior experience in the Gaming industry strongly preferred.
- Must successfully pass drug screening.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
- Ability to communicate effectively with external contacts and all levels of team members.
- Be a self-starter and complete assignments, follow-up, and special projects.
- Work with various computer applications and programs.
- Collaborative and must enjoy working with and assisting people.
- Able to exercise good judgment on an independent basis.
- Must be articulate and possess a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Punctuality and meeting of deadlines is critical.
- Review and comprehend all necessary documentation.
- Compose, type, route, and file correspondence, etc.
- Be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
- Perform effectively and reliably in a fast-paced environment.

- Must be able to work all holidays.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, specific to position duties and responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- The Casino environment is hectic, fast-paced, and often crowded and noisy.
- May be exposed to casino related environmental factors including, but not limited to, secondhand smoke, excessive noise, and constant exposure to public.
The job offer will be contingent on acquiring a Virginia Lottery gaming licensure. Virginia Lottery will conduct an extensive background check and may include, but not limited to:
