Job Title : Clinical Nurse Supervisor

License : Current RN Licensure in the State of Employment

Must-Have : Understanding of Excel, Scheduling, Emergency Supervision, and Covering Shifts
Job Description :
- Report directly to the appropriate administrator for daily clinical operations within the medical department.
- Manage and supervise daily nursing and clinical activities.
- Supervise nursing and non-licensed health care providers and evaluate according to facility and corporate policy.
- Train new employees; evaluate performance and prepare written appraisals; listen to complaints and resolve disputes; take corrective or disciplinary actions; develop work schedules and approve leave requests.
- Provide direct patient care as indicated within the scope of licensure; apply appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates / residents.
- Ensure adequate staffing at the facility; fill in during periods of short staffing; perform nursing duties including executing physician's orders, assisting in examinations or treatment, dispensing medications, treating emergencies, screening for referrals, and performing intakes.
- Perform triage and physical assessments, and direct emergency care procedures while calling for treatment orders when needed.
- Monitor inmate / resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate.
- Provide guidance and supervision for licensed and non-licensed nursing staff.
- Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff and outside provider agencies.
- Utilize corporate and facility policies and procedures in decision-making while using sound independent judgment in responsibilities.
- Regularly evaluate medical services to prevent inappropriate or duplicated services.
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
- Assist administrators with medical file reviews to ensure all services are documented.
- Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
- Audit pharmacy use to adhere to formulary, as directed or required.
- Comply with all pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
- Observe and record inmate / resident behavior.
- Inspect the medical unit for contraband items; securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment.
- Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs, using proper grammar.
- Process all reports and documents timely.
- Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents.
- Respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits and attend court hearings when necessary.
- Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.
- Facilitate accreditation of the medical program where applicable by providing efficient and approved medical services.
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required; take appropriate action in serious incidents and emergencies.
- Escort or coordinate the movement of inmates / residents for medical treatment.
- Perform searches for contraband and identify objects.
- Engage in functions in confined areas, including rotating shifts and securing doors and windows.
- Take action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including emergency medical aid and evacuating people from confined areas.
