JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) performs various patient care activities in the pre-hospital and emergency setting, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the State of Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Commission. Provides emergency first aid to persons for whom an ambulance is summoned and continues such care en route to the medical facility.
Reporting Structure : Reports to the Director of EMS or designee
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Must have completed EMT training as required by State of Tennessee.
Work Experience
Must have one (1) year successful work experience as an EMT.
License / Certification
Ambulance operations
Maintain unencumbered and safe driving record in the State of Tennessee.
Current in Vanessa K. Free and EVOC training.
Current CPR
Basic Life Support (BLS) / Maintain current certification in American Heart Association
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS),
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Demonstrated knowledge of EMS clinical procedures, medical knowledge, techniques, and information needed to treat emergency injuries and illnesses.
Must possess the ability to communicate with and effectively treat patients of all ages in stressful pre-hospital environments and emergency healthcare situations.
Ability to administer emergency medical care to their scope of training.
Ability to speak effectively and convey information to supervisors, peers, and customers
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates the EMS communication equipment in professional manner using proper protocols and procedures and records all pertinent information obtained from EMS dispatch.
Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations.
Performs CPR in compliance with either AHA standards.
Performs pre-hospital EMT duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations and under the direction of the departmental medical director.
Performs daily vehicle maintenance check and cleans both inside and outside of assigned unit on a daily basis.
Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
OTHER DUTIES
Performs similar, less skilled tasks, including assisting with clerical duties within the department.
Demonstrates flexibility as patient care needs change.
Works in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
ePCR Requirements
Will properly complete, in a timely manner, as defined by EMS policy and procedure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically capable of performing all A-EMT services with reasonable accommodation.
Must pass a physical examination and physical agility test.
Physical demands include lifting, climbing, pushing, reading, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, and exert 20-50 pounds of pressure.
OSHA Category I tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
Must work outside in inclement weather.

Must be able to see with corrective eye wear
Must be able to hear clearly with assistance
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
Able to handle emergency and / or crisis situations
May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary
Transferring, repositioning patients.

Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
