SUMMARY / SCOPE :

Theathletic trainer will be responsible for delivering athletic medical care andrelated services to the student-athlete population at Hardin-SimmonsUniversity.

HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING :

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provision of athletic medical care : Possessthe theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to practice independently inmost situations as an athletic trainer. This includes but is not limited toclinical examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, decisionsregarding injury prevention and risk management, and patient advocacy andmediation between physicians, athletic department staff, and family memberswhen necessary.

Compliance : Ensuringadherence to NCAA, American Southwest Conference, and Hardin-Simmons Universitypolicies and procedures as they pertain to the practice of athletic trainingwithin the college and university setting.

Organization and Administration : Documentsall patient encounters, assists with submission of qualifying secondaryinsurance claims, assists with verification of primary insurance, completionand collection of medical forms each year, as well as inventory and limitedbudgeting for supplies.

Communication : Thoroughand frequent communication with fellow staff members, supervisors, physicians,coaches, patients, and family members of patients when applicable.

Clinical Education : Servingas a Clinical Preceptor to athletic training students in a CAATE accreditedMaster of Athletic Training program.

Perform other duties as assigned by Director of AthleticTraining Services and / or Athletic Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Assist Full-Time Athletic Trainers w / supervising athletictraining students and student-athletes in clinic, and duringpractice / competition.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills) :

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read,analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports,business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively presentinformation and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add,subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent andto draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY : Ability to solvepractical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situationswhere only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety ofinstructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS : Toperform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of WordProcessing software; Spreadsheet software; Project Management software; HumanResource systems and Contact Management systems.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or universityrequired.

Master's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

Board of Certification (BOC certification), possess or beeligible for athletic training licensure in the State of Texas, CPR / AED forHealthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

This positionis a Non-Exempt / Hourly Staff Position (Part-Time / No Benefits).

Approximately 20- 29 hours per week is expected. The weekly schedule will vary depending onprojects, events and / or deadlines with an average of 20 hours per week.

All hours worked beyond 40 hours ina single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSA guidelines.

Must have andmaintain a valid Class C Driver's License and maintain a clear driving recordto be insurable under the university liability policy.

Must be able todrive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.

Additional travel may be required onoccasion to attend training, meetings, etc.
