In addition to sales of hardware, tools, and all of the usual hardware store products, we are proud to provide our community with access to an extensive fleet of equipment rentals for both homeowners and contractors. Hardware Sales is an award-winning business that fills several city blocks in Bellingham and offers over 70,000 items for sale to everyone from do-it-yourself homeowners to major contractors. What started in 1962 with three people, now has over 140 employees and covers a total of 37,000 square feet of retail and 50,000 Sq. Ft. warehouse In Bellingham, a 32,000 Sq. Ft. warehouse in Ferndale, WA, and a 55,000 Sq. Ft. warehouse in Greenwood, IN.

We are seeking a customer-focused individual to join our team as a Cashier and Customer Service Representative. This role is crucial in ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience and receive assistance with their purchases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cash Handling: Accurately and efficiently handle cash, credit card transactions, charge accounts, and provide change to customers.
- Customer Service: Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, assist them in finding products, answer questions, and provide guidance on product selection.
- Point of Sale (POS) Operations: Operate the cash register and POS system to process transactions, returns, and exchanges.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain accurate product inventory, replenish stock, and organize merchandise on shelves and displays.
- Price Labeling: Ensure all products are correctly priced and labeled.
- Assist with Store Operations: Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash register reconciliation, ensuring the store is clean and organized, and securing the premises.
- Customer Issue Resolution: Address customer concerns and complaints professionally and escalate issues as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Product Knowledge: Stay up-to-date with product knowledge to provide accurate information to customers.
- Promotions and Upselling: Inform customers about ongoing promotions and upsell relevant products to enhance their shopping experience.
- Safety and Security: Maintain a safe and secure working environment by adhering to safety protocols and preventing theft or fraudulent activities.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other team members and assist in various store tasks as needed.
This role is regular full-time, non-exempt, hourly position.

Qualifications
- Previous experience in cashiering and customer service roles preferred but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic math skills and proficiency in cash handling.
- Enthusiasm for working with customers and helping them find solutions to their needs.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Knowledge or interest in hardware and home improvement products is a plus.
This role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and regular bending and squatting. Strong attention to detail and basic math skills are essential for accurate transactions and inventory management.
