DESIGN/MECHANICAL ENGINEER I

The primary duties of this position are to design and perform modifications of existing design drawings utilizing a computer-aided design (CAD) system and peripheral equipment. Duties include design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating, and process improvement. The successful candidate, under supervision of the Engineering Director, will be responsible for procurement, manufacturing, maintenance, implementation of manufacturing equipment, processes, or upgrades to facilities as required.
Position Responsibilities:
The Design Engineer handles a wide variety of situations:
- Create 3D designs and 2D drawings of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems of moderate complexity by using SolidWorks, Unigraphics and AutoCAD
- Measure parts accurately with full traceability & reporting
- Sketch parts and assemblies
- Enter data into a drawing database
- Document new processes (SOPs)
- Prepare designs from verbal or written instructions
- Visits customer sites to obtain information as required
- May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Preferred - 1-3 yrs related experience producing 3D designs and 2D drawings, or equivalent combination of education/training and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of SolidWorks
- Knowledge of Unigraphics and AutoCAD is desired
- Ability to relate mechanical design and fabrication of automated machinery
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Must be skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers
- Must be able to produce conceptual sketches and convey design ideas to others
- Experience running shop equipment (CNC machines, lathes, waterjet, etc.) preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision, both alone and in teams
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to easily adapt to changing situations
- Knowledge of production scheduling and shop operations is a plus
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce results is a must
