Nature of Work
Be advised the Department of Public Works – Division of W&S is currently recruiting for internship positions in the following three (3) areas:
Drinking Water Operator Internship
Wastewater Operator Internship
Wastewater Mechanic Internship
The work duties will vary depending on the position and are detailed below, working hours will be Monday - Friday 7A-3P
Examples of Duties
The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the department. The list is not inclusive. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary to accomplish the work of the department.
Drinking Water Operator InternshipUnder the oversight of a trained operator, work within the W&S Operations Division supporting Drinking Water Operations staff in performing operational laboratory duties, monitoring treatment systems, obtaining readings, operating valves and pumps, inspecting equipment, and other duties
Wastewater Operator InternshipUnder the oversight of a trained operator, work within the W&S Operations Division supporting Wastewater Operations staff in performing operational laboratory duties, monitoring treatment systems, obtaining readings, operating valves and pumps, inspecting equipment, and other dutiesA wastewater operator intern may also be trained as a wastewater mechanic intern
Wastewater Mechanic InternshipUnder the oversight of a trained mechanic, work within the W&S Operations Division supporting the Wastewater Operations staff in performing maintenance duties such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, obtaining readings, testing equipment, installing new equipment, and other duties A wastewater mechanic intern may also be trained as a wastewater operator intern
Minimum Qualification Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively on a team project
Ability to express ideas, information, and analysis in a clear and concise manner
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form using clear, concise, and understandable language.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
SAFETY:
Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations, and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.
