Nature of Work

Under general supervision, provides assistance, technical guidance, and support services to County departments and agencies related to desktop computing systems. Employees in this class will utilize our Service Now Service Desk ticketing system to provide Tier 1 technical support to both internal and remote users. Daily Support Services include logging and resolving desktop computer related issues involving applications, hardware, software, operating system, network connectivity and cyber security.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide Tier 1 Support for desktops, laptops, desktop phones, cell phones, printers, and mobile devices.
  • Responsible for the staging, imaging, and deployment of new desktop / laptop computers and migration of user data.
  • Install and configure peripheral devices.
  • Investigate and resolve desktop hardware, software, printing and network connectivity issues.
  • Ensure required software and security updates and patches are applied in a timely manner.
  • Set up VPN and Remote Access Solutions.
  • Perform miscellaneous technical and administrative tasks in support of LAN and PC environment.
  • Responsible for IT inventory and asset management.
  • Develops and maintains knowledgebase articles to document resolutions related to Help Desk support tickets.
  • Ensure that incidents and requests are entered and serviced in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the deployment, configuration, and cable management; patch management, and testing of new workstations, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees, as well as coordinating with other departments to improve our security posture and overall employee experience.
  • Answer technical calls and provide phone or remote support.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Understanding of business applications, operating systems, networking, print servers, and presentation systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop Operating systems. Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast moving environment.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills to include telephony skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care.
  • Ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile / wireless devices, peripherals and related software.
  • Ability to follow department procedures for all hardware / software installations.
  • Ability to learn Microsoft Windows and Office 365 administration responsibilities for permissions and account management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with vendors, county departments, and agencies.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the written and oral form using clear, concise and understandable language.
  • Ability to drive a county vehicle while carrying out assignments in county departments located in outlying areas and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ideal incumbent must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and the Internet.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Possession of a high school diploma, GED Certificate, or (1) year certificate in IT related field supplemented by some college level courses, workshops, or seminars. One to three (1-3) years of experience providing support in a LAN / WAN environment.

    Two (2) years of college in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or IT related field.

    Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) experience is not required but is preferred.

    LICENSE :

    A valid Class "C" non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points may be required for some positions in this class.   • Employee occupying this position is considered a critical employee and is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for emergency situations.

    4 years - 9 years 1 ¼ days per month (15 days per year)

    10 years - 15 years 1 ¾ days per month (21 days per year)

  • SICK LEAVE - Begin accruing first day of employment (UMLIMITED ACCUMULATION)

    1 day is allowed after first month of employment

    PERSONAL LEAVE - For new employees, personal leave is prorated according to schedule below, for the first year only. Any employee on board as of December 31st of each year automatically receives 8 days as of January 1st the following year. (NOTE : Personal Leave may not be taken until successful completion of probationary period; personal leave will be lost if not taken before December 31st of each year.)

    CIVIL LEAVE - No loss in pay while serving Jury Duty.

    RETIREE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE BENEFITS-

    Employees hired on or after 7 / 1 / 2010 will have an automatic Retirement Health Savings account made available as the primary retiree healthcare benefit. This 105(h) Universal Reimbursement Account will only be able to be accessed upon separation of service and / or retirement whichever applicable. These accounts are employer funded, tax free, & portable with 20 different Nationwide investment options.

    These funds are solely for the use of offsetting your premium health care cost, prescriptions, co-pays and deductibles. Upon death funds are made available immediately to the surviving spouse or qualified dependents (as defined by the IRC 152 (a).
