What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT (TEMP/NO BENEFITS) position at Harford County?
Under close supervision, a person in this position participates in leading and supervising camp participants, ages 7-12, in a variety of sports, games and activities during summer camps at the Edgewood Recreation and Community Center. Other duties include maintaining a safe and clean workplace, distribution and accounting for equipment and supplies, and performing related work as required.
- Receives rules and methods to be successful in leading recreational activities including sports and arts and craft, while insuring safety and maximum participation.
- Receives rules and methods to be successful in conducting educational activities including STEM while insuring safety and maximum participation.
- Enforces program behavior procedures and recommends corrective actions when necessary.
- Distributes and maintains equipment and supplies.
- Keeps building and premises in neat and safe condition.
- Inspects building/grounds.
- Instructs users on the proper utilization of the facility and equipment.
- Provides instruction and encourages group and individual participation.
- Works in all types of weather with exposure to the outdoors.

Individuals selected for this position will be required to pass a drug screening, a criminal background check, and receive clearance from Child Protective Services.
Must be a high school student entering their senior year in the Fall of 2025, or graduated, or GED certificate.
Prefer a minimum of one season of volunteer or paid experience working with children.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- For candidates aged 18 years old and over: Possession of a Class "C" driver's license with no more than three (3) points. Please be advised this position requires a valid driver's license for those aged 18 years old and older.
- It is preferred that the incumbent have a current CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain prior to starting employment
