Heartland Family Medicine is seeking a PRN Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to cover weekends (Friday, 5:30 PM – Monday, 7:30 AM), holidays, and additional shifts as needed due to vacations or illness. This role is essential in ensuring seamless patient care in our Emergency Department and hospital setting.
What You’ll Do
Conduct exams, diagnose conditions, and prescribe treatments
Manage minor injuries, perform suturing, splinting, and casting
Order and interpret lab tests and imaging
Educate patients and families on healthcare options
Collaborate with specialists to ensure top-quality care
What We’re Looking For
Certified NP or PA in Nebraska (BLS & ACLS required)
Minimum of 2 years of clinical and ER experience preferred

- Provide high-quality, age-appropriate healthcare services in an ambulatory setting, including the Emergency Room and Hospital.
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and required documentation.
- Coordinate patient care with specialists as needed.
- Prepare and manage prescriptions under physician supervision.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Promote Heartland Family Medicine Rural Health Clinic within the community.
- Educate patients and families on illness prevention and available healthcare resources.
- Evaluate patient care processes and outcomes to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Participate in health education initiatives for individuals, families, and healthcare teams.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including infection control and safety protocols.
- Engage in professional development activities, including educational programs and workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree; Master’s of Science Degree preferred.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferred.
- Nebraska PA or NP Certification, with ongoing recertification.
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and develop patient treatment plans.
- Proficiency in interpreting lab results and imaging.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide patient education and counseling.
- Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations.
- Basic math skills for medical calculations and financial documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a healthcare setting.
