Internship - Project Engineer

Essential Functions

• Work with Operations Manager as a mentor for project management and estimating training. Tasks to be completed with district support include:
• Reviewing RFP's, reviewing Contracts, attend pre-bid meetings, preparing/requesting subcontractor RFQ's, participating in field/jobsite reviews, completing takeoffs, constructing estimates, participating in bid reviews, vetting subcontractors, and completing bid deliverables
• Understanding existing contractual obligations, attending project hand-off and kick-off meeting, updating project schedule, forecasting project cost to completion, attending field visits, and attending project update meetings with client.
• Check databases and websites that we utilize to find bid opportunities to pursue.
• Assist project managers with current project deliverables: such as requesting utility locates, data entry, project tracking and performance, prepare billing, and review equipment utilization etc.
• Working with our Safety Engineer (Michael James) to shadow him for site safety audits. Doing field inspections and taking photos before and after work is performed.
• Participation in the Lunch & Learn internship program provided by the MYR Group Internship Leadership team.
• Prior to the end of their internship, the intern will create and present a self-reflection project detailing their gained industry knowledge, future career goals, as well as personal and professional growth. The presentation will be provided in PowerPoint and presented to their direct management team.

Qualifications

• College sophomore or above working towards a related undergraduate degree or be currently enrolled in or attending trade school. If you are a recent graduate, you must be within 1 year of your graduation date.
• No experience required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prepare and give presentations.
• Organized and detail oriented.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
