Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Fitness Instructor at our Armory.
The Fitness Instructor will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Fitness Instructor will join our Armory team that provides high-quality fitness programming to empower Harlem’s youth and families, supporting their physical and mental well-being through engaging fitness activities. The individual will be a dynamic and skilled instructor responsible for leading fitness sessions, fostering a healthy and inclusive environment, and inspiring participants to achieve their wellness goals

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current certification in fitness instruction (e.g., NASM, ACE, ISSA, or similar)
- CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- At least 1 year of experience leading group fitness or personal training sessions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to motivate and engage diverse groups of participants

What you’ll do
- Lead engaging Individual and group fitness classes for adults in alignment with the Armory’s programming goals
- Develop and implement fitness plans that cater to various skill levels and fitness abilities
- Monitor participants' safety, providing modifications and guidance as needed
- Maintain equipment and ensure a clean, safe workout environment
- Collaborate with Armory staff to support community events and wellness initiatives
- Encourage and inspire participants to achieve their fitness and wellness goals
- Track attendance and provide feedback to participants to help them improve
