Basic Function:
The School Age Director is responsible for the overall planning, development, and management of before and after school programs, summer camps, and other enrichment activities for school-age children. This role ensures high-quality programming that fosters social, emotional, and academic growth while maintaining compliance with licensing regulations and safety standards. The School-Age Director reports to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
Program Development & Operations:
- Design, implement, and evaluate engaging, age-appropriate programs that support the physical, intellectual, and social-emotional development of children.
- Oversee the daily operations of all school-age programs, ensuring a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
- Develop and maintain program policies, procedures, and schedules to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national regulations, as well as organizational policies.
- Coordinate logistics for program locations, transportation, meals/snacks, and materials.
- Monitor program enrollment and attendance, making data-driven decisions to enhance offerings.
Staff Leadership & Development:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff ensuring that they meet all program requirements.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance team performance.
- Provide coaching, support, and performance evaluations to ensure staff uphold program expectations and best practices.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that prioritizes child safety, learning, and engagement.
Family & Community Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for families, addressing concerns, collecting feedback, and providing program updates.
- Plan and facilitate family engagement activities, open houses, and special events.
- Develop partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local agencies to enhance program resources and collaboration.
- Promote the program through outreach efforts, marketing materials, and community involvement.
Financial & Administrative Management:
- Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records related to enrollment, staffing, incidents, and compliance documentation.
- Identify and apply for funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships, to expand and improve programming.
- Ensure timely collection of program fees and maintain financial accountability.
Other Duties:
- Stay current on best practices in school-age programming, youth development, and child care licensing regulations.
- Represent the organization professionally in meetings, trainings, and community events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, recreation, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in youth programs, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Knowledge of child development, behavior management strategies, and enrichment programming.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience managing budgets and overseeing program operations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
