POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Drop-in Program Coordinator is responsible for coordination of drop-in operations and direct supervision of drop-in staff and peers. Under the supervision of the Program Director, Syringe Access Services, the Drop-in Program Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the department’s readiness for welcoming individuals into our drop-in space.

Drop-in services are conducted utilizing a harm reduction approach that supports the client in identifying their own goals around substance use, sexual health, and engagement in additional services. This position supports the efforts of the Program Director, AVP, and Senior Clinical Director to strengthen staff members’ clinical skills around client engagement and motivational interviewing.

This position is specifically responsible for the activities related to the drop-in services at Harlem United’s Integrated Harm Reduction Department. Job responsibilities will include: implementing drop-in policies and procedures, developing new policies or operations protocols as needed, ensuring adherence to data collection and reporting protocols, and ensuring that program are staff trained in all facets of drop-in services. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

Service Delivery and Service Tracking

    Provide direct services in the drop-in, including assistance with intakes, client engagement, and distribution of needed supplies. 

    Track service delivery for all client services in the drop-in; enter completed services in required databases.

    Manage timely submission of paperwork and data entry from staff and peers. 

    Assist Program Director in gathering narrative information for monthly reporting as indicated for assigned contracts for both the city HRS contract and the State Syringe Exchange Program.

    Attend quarterly contract meetings with funders and any other funder required meetings as needed.

Supervision

    Evaluate staff monthly by conducting Data Driven Supervision sessions.

    Facilitate 90 Day and Annual Evaluations of staff.

    Conduct observations of staff engagement with clients.

    Regularly identify and celebrate staffs’ strengths.

    Regularly identify areas for staff improvement and work with them to develop tools to support their professional growth and the demands of the program.

    With the guidance of the Program Director, utilize Progressive Discipline when the efforts above are not met with skill enhancement or behavior change from staff, or when there is a violation of the agency’s policies and procedures.

    Enhance and maintain morale of team. 

    Recruit, hire (with guidance from supervisor) and train new staff members when needed.

    Supervision of Peer Educators, Interns and Volunteers

    Supervise Peer Educators assigned to work in the drop-in.

    Support interns and volunteers during their hands-on training experience.

Administrative

    Create monthly schedule for drop-in staff and peers.

    Track and submit peer timesheets for payment.

    Work with Program Director to ensure coverage for drop-in services as needed when staff are out of office on PTO or sick time.

    Assist Program Director in tracking inventory and ordering needed drop-in supplies.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:

    Actively participate in quality assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement projects with Program Director and Program Evaluator.

    Participate in the department supervisors meeting, department meetings, and agency-wide staff meetings.

    Participate in agency-wide events as assigned.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION 

    Four years of experience in harm reduction and/or HIV prevention, specifically with clients who actively inject drugs. 

    Knowledge of the needs of people who are living with HIV, people who use substances, including people who inject drugs. A deep understanding of and respect for the harm reduction model and its principles essential.

    Knowledge of health disparities and social factors that lead to increased risk for HIV and HCV for certain communities.

    Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to follow through on complex projects. 

    Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.

    Excellent written and verbal communication.

    Strong interpersonal skills.

    Motivational Interviewing experience, preferred; Ability to model skills for staff, essential.

    Ability to maintain the highest degree of professionalism in communication and management styles.


 Hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00AM–4:00PM or 9:00AM–5:00PM
