PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Harmon Electric is seeking an experienced, accomplished, self-motivated Safety Manager. The Safety Manager will work across a variety of functional departments creating a safety culture that is positive, inviting and promotes the success of the business, mission and values. We are seeking a leader with a visible commitment to safety and embodies teamwork. The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards as well as implementing safety directives to help facilitate improved safety performance. This individual will have a desire to teach, train, educate and mentor both corporate and field craft employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares, revises and amends safety and health programs and policies.
  • Identifies company safety training needs, develops, and coordinates safety training programs.
  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, develops annual company safety and health goals.
  • Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc. newsletters and specific training programs.
  • Understands Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Advises operations and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the organization must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
  • Conducts audits of records or safety practices to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal/State occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Manages lost-time injuries/illnesses, worker’s compensation claims and reviews injury/illness, non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for se by company personnel and senior management.
  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional knowledge, skill and abilities.
  • Maintains safety files and records.
  • Performs safety audits and inspections, prepares written reports of finding and recommendations for corrective action, re-training or preventive measures in areas indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Maintain Company’s OSHA recordkeeping logs.
  • Order and maintain safety inventory including supplies and equipment.
  • Completes weekly, monthly and yearly filings.
  • Team Player, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, flexible and adaptable to changes to planned tasks or schedule.
  • Ability to read, quickly analyze, extrapolate, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to conduct scheduled or impromptu safety trainings in the field. (Active job sites)
  • Ability to Champion a training and mentoring program for members of the safety department. Be a forward thinker with ability to develop and implement growth and effective change.
  • Other duties as assigned.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurability required when job duties require use of motor vehicle
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or three to five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified First Aid/CPR Trainer
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA 500 a plus
  • Willing to travel to various job sites and work locations.
  • Must be available and willing to work early mornings, late evening, weekends or holidays for events such as accidents, shut down procedures or crane operations as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week or more if required
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs. unassisted; push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • May require repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking throughout the workday
  • May require climbing stairs or ladders, stopping, kneeling, crouching or crawling
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations
  • May be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites
  • Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud
  • The position regularly works near live electrical loads and outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity and exposure to dust and asphalt
