The Client
We are excited to partner with a high growth independent creative studio that specializes in offering brand advisory, SEO, and digital advertisements to their clients in the Food and Beverage/Hospitality space. Focused on artistic integrity and collaboration, the studio works with a range of exciting brands, creating unique campaigns that captivate audiences and build lasting brand recognition. As the studio continues to grow, they are looking to bring on a Controller to oversee their financial operations and help shape the financial strategy for long-term success.
The Role
We are seeking a Controller to join this creative studio, managing and overseeing all financial aspects of the business. In this key role, you will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, and providing insights into the studio's performance. You will work closely with the leadership team to ensure the studio's financial operations align with business objectives and support growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial management, with a passion for the creative industries and an understanding of how finance plays a role in driving success for a small studio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Provide actionable insights on financial performance and key metrics to senior leadership.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting: Develop and maintain annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts. Ensure alignment with business goals and market conditions.
- Financial analysis and decision-making: Analyze financial outcomes to drive growth and profitability. Provide recommendations for improving cost structures and enhancing revenue streams.
- Cash flow management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure financial stability and growth. Provide recommendations on working capital management.
- Collaborate with teams: Work cross-functionally with creative, marketing, and operations teams to support key projects and ensure financial efficiency.
- Compliance and risk management: Monitor financial risks and ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements. Implement effective risk management practices.
- Lead tax and regulatory filings: Oversee the preparation and timely submission of all tax filings, including income, sales, and payroll taxes.
- Mentorship: Provide leadership to the small finance team, fostering a collaborative and supportive culture. Encourage continuous learning and improvement.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Proven financial management experience, ideally in the creative, design, or advertising industries.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial modeling, and forecasting.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to both financial and non-financial teams.
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Bonus (Not Required) Skills
- Experience in the creative industries (e.g., design, branding, advertising, TV, Film, Media, Marketing).
- Knowledge of financial software platforms commonly used in creative agencies.
Salary & Benefits
- $170,000–$200,000 (commensurate with experience) benefits equity
