Harmony Acres is a nonprofit organization that is passionate about creating a place where people and animals come together for the purpose of healing. Our very active therapy center in Loma, Colorado typically serves at least 70 individuals each and every week through onsite therapeutic activities involving our 4-legged team of horses and other animals and our two-legged team of mental health therapists, peer specialists, and therapeutic riding instructors. We are committed to providing access to the most disadvantaged members of our community, and assisting them in overcoming the impact of traumas, abuse, foster care / kinship care, military service, and physical and intellectual disabilities through facilitated therapeutic interactions involving animals. We are seeking a Development Director to join our team and help us achieve the furthering of our mission through community outreach, fundraising, and donor development. Position Overview :

The Development Director will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing the organization’s fundraising strategy and initiatives. This position seeks an innovative and strategic leader who can cultivate relationships with donors, manage fundraising campaigns, and oversee the development team. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for Harmony Acres mission of making the world a better place for animals and people.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Strategic Planning :

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Identify and evaluate new fundraising opportunities and areas for growth.

2. Donor Relations :

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Develop and implement donor recognition initiatives and stewardship plans.
  • 3. Campaign Management :

  • Oversee major fundraising campaigns, including capital campaigns, annual giving programs, and special events.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute successful fundraising events.
  • 4. Team Leadership :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the development team (composed of other staff and volunteers) to achieve fundraising goals and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Set performance metrics and regularly evaluate team performance against goals.
  • 5. Community Outreach and Fundraising Proposals :

  • Manage regular communications and outreaches to donors
  • Prepare compelling case statements and fundraising materials for various audiences.
  • 6. Database Management :

  • Oversee the maintenance of the donor database and ensure accurate tracking of donor interactions and activities.
  • Analyze fundraising data to inform strategies and report on progress to stakeholders.
  • 7. Communication and Advocacy :

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for development initiatives, representing the organization at events and meetings.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
  • Qualifications :

    The Development Director should possess excellent people skills and networking abilities, and exceptional written and verbal communications and time management techniques. Additionally, this individual should demonstrate the following :

  • A passion and drive to serve Harmony Acres’ WHY, Mission, Vision and Values on a daily basis via development activities.
  • Support behavioral health as a priority practice in implementation of all Harmony Acres efforts.
  • Act in a manner consistent with Harmony Acres’ standards for ethical and professional conduct.
  • A track record of delivering superior results, commanding respect, and assuming leadership roles.
  • Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Creative thinker who enjoys the process of visioning, developing, and creating, and is able to be self-motivated
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Harmony Acres’ clients, and for working with vulnerable populations and others in crisis, suffering from trauma and / or otherwise challenged by physical or mental health issues.
  • Proficiency in use of technology such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to learn specific databases (Bloomerang, Thryv) and / or reporting or other software to improve fundraising-related functions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within and outside the organization.
  • Outgoing communicator and team member who enjoys communicating with and motivating others, building new relationships, and working as part of a successful team.
  • Credentials :

  • B.A., B.S. or comparable degree or work experience.
  • Previous experience with fundraising, marketing, or written communications preferred
  • Previous leadership or management experiences
  • While no animal experience is required, we do prefer someone with a love and passion for both animals and people and a desire to support our mission of “creating a place where people and animals come together for the purpose of healing.”
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must live within the Mesa County Community or within reasonable driving distance in order to attend events, regularly network with donors and community partners, and facilitate media projects at the facility.
  • We are very interested to hear your unique skills and talents that may relate to this position. Particularly valued skills may include : writing ability; leadership and communication skills; IT skills or tech related; proficiency with social media platforms; event planning or fundraising experience; video production or editing; experience in the non-profit or business community. We are willing to help train / develop the right person and have some flexibility in how we customize the position to best fit the person we hire.
