Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented In-House Biller & Coder to join our team. As an In-House Biller & Coder, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses and ensuring timely billing and reimbursement processes. Your expertise in medical coding, billing regulations, and attention to detail will play a crucial role in optimizing revenue and maintaining compliance.
Essential Functions:
● Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
● Prepare and submit insurance claims, ensuring compliance with billing guidelines and accurate patient information
● Follow up on outstanding claims, denials, and appeals to ensure timely reimbursement
● Conduct audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with billing regulations
● Collaborate with healthcare providers and team members to resolve coding and billing issues
● Stay updated with coding guidelines and reimbursement policies
● Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
● Analyze and problem-solve coding discrepancies and billing issues
● Handle patient data with integrity and accuracy
● Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
● Review and analyze medical records, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of procedures, diagnoses, and treatments
● Assign appropriate codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
● Analyze and ensure HEDIS metrics are met through proper coding requirements
● Verify patient insurance information, benefits, and eligibility
● Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or via paper claims
● Follow up on outstanding claims, denials, and appeals to ensure timely reimbursement
● Conduct regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with billing regulations
● Collaborate with healthcare providers and other staff members to resolve coding and billing issues
● Stay updated with industry changes, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies
● Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations
● May be asked to participate in Rapid HIV and HCV testing training, as needed, after completion of the training program
● Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical coding (such as CPC, CCS,
orRHIA) preferred
● Minimum of 3 years of experience as a medical biller and coder, preferably in an in-
house setting
● In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
● Knowledge of HEDIS and other clinical quality metrics is preferred
● Familiarity with insurance claim submission and reimbursement processes
● Proficient in using medical billing and coding software (e.g., EPIC, Kareo, or similar
systems)
● Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while working with large
volumes of data
● Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
● Effective communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Physical Demands:
● This position is generally performed in a professional office setting; 70% sitting, 20%
standing, and 10% walking.
● This position routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptops, computers,
phones, headsets, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
● Ability to lift/move up to 20 pounds.
● Occasional travel to participate in community outreach events may be required,
including GayDayS, Pride Events, community testing events, etc.
