JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Nurse Practitioner

Supervision: Reports to Chief Clinical Officer and/or Chief Medical Officer

Status: Full-Time (Minimum 37.5 hours/week)

Classification: Salaried (Exempt)

Salary Range: $100,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually

Benefits Offered: After employed for 90 consecutive calendar days, eligible for (5) days of paid Sick Time, as well as participation in the Group Health, Dental, and Vision and 403(b) Plans (with a Company match on the 403(b) Plan contribution after 24 months). After employed for six (6) months, eligible for fifteen (15) days of paid Vacation Time; 10 paid education days for CME completion; paid Company Holidays; and up to $1,500.00 per year for licensure/Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit reimbursement.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Nurse Practitioner (“NP”) is a Full-Time position requiring a minimum 37.5-hour work week. The NP will serve in a primary care/sexual health clinic, responsible for delivering comprehensive sexual healthcare to patients. This includes taking a detailed sexual health history that covers HIV and STI risk factors, offering preventive screenings, diagnosing and treating STIs, providing contraceptive counseling, conducting HIV tests along with post-test counseling, and delivering specialized care. Additionally, the NP will educate patients about safe sexual practices, provide guidance on risk reduction strategies and behavior changes, and address concerns related to sexual function and dysfunction.

This licensed position practices as part of a collaborative team that includes other Nurse Practitioners, Case Managers, Administrative and Clinical staff members throughout the Central Florida Region. The purpose of collaboration is to provide a comprehensive, coordinated model of care to the underserved and LGBTQIA communities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The NP is expected to be able to provide care consistent with their licensure and certification, providing direct and indirect evidence-based primary care to patients.
  • Requires a level of comfort to discuss sensitive patient information, such as sexual history, symptoms, STIs, and relevant aspects of a patient’s care plan.
  • Tests, diagnoses, and treats both acute and chronic conditions seen in a primary/outpatient care setting such as: HIV, Hepatitis C, STI, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and other chronic medical conditions. The NP will also treat minor injuries and other acute medical conditions such as infections or exacerbations of chronic diseases.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic lab work, diagnostic imaging reports, and EKG’s; relays test results and prognoses with patients.
  • Prescribes medications and other modalities of treatment as needed to treat those conditions listed above.
  • Creates and updates patient charts using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) software.
  • Performs high quality patient education on various disease conditions they may be treating to ensure that the patient is educated to their disease process, treatment, and expected outcomes.
  • Ensures staff receive best practice updates and trainings specific to their roles and skill levels.
  • Conducts meetings for direct patient assessment and intervention.
  • Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and classes to maintain knowledge of changes and developments in the healthcare industry.
  • Works in coordination with executive leadership in planning programs and updating Policies & Procedures and Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Will report concerns regarding quality assurance or practice issues to the Executive Director, Medical Director, and Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Stays current with medical developments, new drugs, treatments, and medications, including complementary medicine.
  • Works productivity must demonstrate ability to see a minimum caseload of 18-20 patients per day (8 hour shift); effectively work patients into their schedules as caseload demands; and respond to a variety of unforeseen daily circumstances, including emergency care of patients.
  • Monitors and responds to pages and patient messages on secure messaging portal.
  • Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information by following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Promotes and practices Harmony Healthcare Orlando’s (HHO’s) mission and values, and follows its policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Works effectively and professionally with a diverse population treating all clinical staff and patients with the utmost respect at all times.
  • Participates in all required training and certifications including, but not limited to: HIPAA, Biohazardous Waste, CPR/BLS/ACLS, 500/501 Rapid HIV testing, and Rapid HCV testing.
  • Performs rapid HIV and HCV testing (when needed) and helps to ensure all documentation is scanned and stored according to Florida Department of Health guidelines.
  • Attends and assists patients and clinical staff during community outreach testing events. Also may be required to attend other community outreach events such as GayDayS, Pride Events, etc. Advance notification of dates/times will be given to allow for proper scheduling. On these dates, work times may be modified to ensure employees do not exceed budgeted hours.

Core Duties And Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care through diagnosis, education, and treatment of acute conditions and injuries and infections or exacerbations of chronic diseases, including prescribing medications and other modalities of treatment.
  • Provide leadership and support to assure the provision of high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure staff members are properly trained, including with respect to billing and coding procedures.
  • Responsive and available to monitor and respond promptly to messages and pages, working on a rotating on-call schedule to include occasional weekends and holidays.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and consistent satisfactory or above job performance.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Preferred unless indicated as a Requirement)

  • 18 months of clinical experience as a NP (Required)
  • Tuberculosis screening along with proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease. (Required)
  • Vaccinations and immunizations recommended for healthcare workers by the Florida Department of Health, including; COVID-19 vaccination and Mpox vaccination. (May be Required)
  • English oral and written proficiency. (Required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Proficiency of other languages welcomed (particularly Spanish and Creole).
  • Prior work experience comfortably managing primarily an LGBTQIA patient population, including persons with HIV/AIDS and STI management (Required)
  • Experience with Apple products and apps

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS (Preferred unless indicated as a Requirement)

  • Master of Science in Nursing (Required)
  • Autonomous Nurse Practitioner Licensure in Florida (Required)
  • Valid FL Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation (with current vehicle registration and insurance). (Required)
  • Use of public transportation to events and other locations may be an option as long as work schedule requirements are met.
  • Florida Board of Nursing Certification from approved Nurse Practitioner certification body (AANP or AACN) (Required):
  • The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)
  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification Program
  • Current prescriptive authority from the Florida Board of Nursing (Required)
  • Valid DEA license (Required)
  • Maintenance of licensure requirements of the certifying body will be the responsibility of the NP and at his/her/their own cost. (Required)

  • This position operates in an office setting and through outreach events; 50-70% sitting and the remaining time is standing and/or walking.
