Classroom Behavior Assistant

Harmony Hill School (HHS), a private, non-profit organization providing residential care, day treatment programs and education services to adolescent males, is seeking a Behavior Assistant to join our team of dedicated, caring professionals. Our beautiful school campus is located in Glocester, RI, just a 20-30 minute commute from many towns in the RI, CT, MA area.

Job responsibilities:

This is a full time, year-round position providing support our youth clients through their morning routines and school day activities working in both classroom and dormitory setting. Job responsibilities include:

• Actively supervise youth during normal morning and school day routines.
• Guide youth through personal hygiene tasks and and engage in recreational activities and life skills learning.
• Follow established routines and schedules to assist in maintaining an environment that is conductive to teaching and learning.
• Assist in maintaining an environment that is conductive to learning by following established routines and schedules.
• Assist in program preparation to meet the individual needs of each student.

During the school year, the work schedule is 7am-3pm, Monday through Friday. During school vacation and summer weeks, you'll be assigned to work a mix of 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm shifts. Starting pay rate is $20-22/hour with full benefits and generous time off.

Skills & Attributes:

• Strong interpersonal communication, conflict management and de-escalation skills.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, classroom support, and residential treatment best practices.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth, families, and professionals. Possess a knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
• Effective communication skills, interacting well with others in a team environment, understanding and following rules and directions from supervisor.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree or college enrollment preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of classroom support/residential/youth care experience is required. Experience working with youth in the care of the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is helpful.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Physical requirements of this position include: frequent standing, sitting, walking; occasional running; lifting of up to 20 lbs.
• Must have the ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques including youth restraint when necessary.
• Must successfully complete required driving record, criminal, and child abuse/neglect pre-employment screenings and maintain favorable results during employment.
