Job Summary
The Hospice Chaplain is a key member of the hospice care team, helping to coordinate and implement spiritual support activities that reflect the beliefs and values of clients and families. If you are interested in working with people during a sacred time of life, a changing work environment, and being a part of a compassionate team, hospice may be your calling.
Responsibilities
- Perform spiritual assessments and risk assessments of complicating bereavement factors
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with team members to include spiritual needs in the plan of care
- Refer to or coordinate with local clergy as requested by the client and family
- Coordinate care with other professionals to meet the emotional and psychological needs of the client and family
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse client population and co-workers
- Assist families with funeral and memorial services when indicated
- Help lead bereavement services for survivors
- Submit required documentation in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Preferred training includes a bachelor's degree in religious studies or a related subject and a master's degree in theology, divinity or pastoral studies. Hospice chaplain certification is also a plus.
- Current CPR with BLS card
- Valid drivers license, at least state minimum auto insurance, and an operational vehicle
- Possess or obtain a good understanding of Federal, State, and local laws and regulatory guidelines governing hospice operations
- Great organization skills and an ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations, and to be close to clients who may be actively dying
- Commitment to adhere to professional boundaries
- Computer/Technology literacy and experience documenting on an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
Physical Requirements
- Duties require extensive standing, walking, and sitting
- Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or assistance with transferring patients
- Requires frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
