POSITION TITLE: Medication Nursing Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing non-professional nursing services and medication administration. Is directly responsible for performing specified services for residents as designated as performed under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Provides medication administration as determined, delegated, and monitored by the licensed nurse.
REPORTS TO: RN/ LPN
REPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
2. Responsible for administration of topical, oral, nasal, ocular, auricular, vaginal, and rectal medications and documentation in accordance with the standards set forth by Harmony Homes and as directed by the nurse.
3. Function as a care partner of the RN/LPN in the task of medication administration to stable residents.
a. Stable is defined as Nur 101.19 “means a client whose health status is under control and raises no expectation that the client’s symptoms, vital signs, or reactions to medications will suddenly change.”
4. Effectively observes and communicates, related to the administration and effectiveness of medication.
5. Replenishes medication and supplies as needed and maintains nursing station cleanliness.
6. Keeps licensed personnel informed of significant observations in resident care and environmental condition, supply and equipment needs and performance problems.
7. Follows resident care plans in providing services to residents.
8. Assist in the development and updating of each resident’s care plan.
9. Strip and make residents’ beds.
10. Assist in preparing meals, serving meals, and bussing tables during mealtimes if necessary.
11. Daily light housekeeping.
12. Assist residents with activities of daily living, including self-management, monitoring, or supervision of medications, bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, hygiene, and mobility.
13. Assist residents with oxygen, ostomies, and other medical problems.
14. Encourage socialization among residents.
15. Assist with the activity program, conduct activities as directed by the Activities Director or assigned by the supervisor.
16. Encourage and/or remind residents to participate in activities. Promote activities enthusiastically to pique resident’s interest.
17. Chaperone activities outside the facility when requested.
18. Monitor the health, safety and well-being of residents.
19. Document information pertaining to changes in resident’s functional status, personal needs, appointments, etc.
20. Assist in keeping the environment safe for residents.
21. Provide one-on-one support/visitation to assigned residents on a weekly basis or as requested by supervisor.
22. Report concerns about residents to supervisor and co-workers.
23. Respond to resident emergencies and arrange for appropriate medical attention.
24. Provide transportation services.
25. Identify supplies needed to perform tasks and report needs to supervisor.
26. Practice safety in working and with equipment, chemicals, tools and utensils.
27. Adhere to and carry out all policies and procedures
28. Establish and maintain constructive work relationships with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
29. Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to resident, facility operations, and personnel.
30. Promote Harmony Homes in a positive manner.
31. Review the Staff Communication log on a daily basis for information about changes in resident service needs and/or health conditions.
32. Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, with the ability to read, write and understand English. Is able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, to occasionally lift more than 30 pounds, and to spend long periods of time walking/standing. Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 years prior experience working with the elderly, preferably in a residential setting. Must have training and experience as a nursing assistant and hold a New Hampshire state licensure as a MNA. Must be at least 18 years of age, with a high school degree or equivalent GED preferred.
