GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the First Steps Director. The Recovery (Peer) Coach is a person with lived experience who helps remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, linking the newly recovering person to the recovering community, and serves as a navigator and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery
37.5 hours per week
$15.00/hour
DUTIES
- Operate as a member of the First Steps and Harmony House teams, striving at all times to provide quality services to those experiencing substance use disorder, serious mental illness and/or homelessness.
- As a team member, you will be expected to help maintain the order and cleanliness (sweep, mop, take out trash, etc.) of First Steps.
- Promote client engagement in housing support program and increase retention in treatment.
- Help initiate and sustain an individual in their recovery from substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.
- Promote recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery.
- Serve as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking treatment and recovery.
- Help an individual find resources for harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education, local or online support groups; or help someone create a change plan to recover on their own.
- Help individual find ways to stop using (abstinence), or reduce the harm associated with addictive behaviors.
- Identification and referral to community wide services and supports to grow recovery capital.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Establish working relationship with community groups and organizations to further develop a strong recovery network.
- Work with all local judicial officials to promote recovery coaching services while serving an important role within the overall treatment plan for each individual.
- Connect individuals to personal and community supports necessary to live independently.
- Assist individuals with obtaining recovery oriented materials, attend recovery support meetings, and provide referrals as necessary.
- Access and provide referrals to high-risk consumers for HIV, TB, and Hepatitis.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of Harmony House services and policies.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in establishing and maintain relationships with those experiencing serious mental illness.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, clients, and officials of other social service agencies.
Ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize assignments.
Ability to take directions from many persons, yet work independently. Must be able to function as a team member.
Knowledge of peer support techniques.
Abide by all personnel policies, as stated in the Harmony House Employee handbook.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A high school degree or GED. Experience providing consumer operated services preferred. Proficiency in administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing systems and filing and records management. Computer skills, written and verbal aptitudes are a requirement.
Lived experience with substance use challenges required and at least 18 months of continuous sobriety
Completion of Recovery Coach Academy or similar PR training required
WV Peer Credential (PR) Required
Current Valid Driver's License required
