What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Nutrition Assistant position at Harmony School of Innovation- Odessa?
JOB GOAL:
To effectively operate the Child Nutrition program at the campus, including compliance with all state and federal regulations and adherence with Harmony policies and procedures
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o High School GED or Diploma
o Current Food Manager Certification as accepted by the Texas Department of State Health Services, preferred or obtained
in first two weeks of employment.
o A minimum of 1-year school food service experience, preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Responsible for processing Student Eligibility applications and completing Verification in accordance with USDA
regulations.
o Monitors student lunch accounts and notifies the household of negative balances through phone calls, letters, and emails.
o Reviews the meal service production records daily, reporting any discrepancies to the District and/or Central Office.
o Operates Point of Service during breakfast, lunch, and snack meal periods, ensuring that each student has selected a
reimbursable meal.
o Maintains the appropriate documentation for students requesting Special Dietary Accommodations, in accordance with
USDA protocol.
o Operates the After School Snack Program, distributing reimbursable snacks and maintaining the appropriate
documentation (if a snack program is offered in the school).
o Operates the a la carte program, ordering product, maintaining inventory, and all appropriate documentation (if a la carte
program is offered in the school)
o Participates in the Local School Wellness Policy, including collecting and maintaining documentation, assessing
completion of policy goals, publicizing updates, and other related activities as outlined in the District Wellness Policy.
o Daily recording of meal counts and revenue, with any discrepancies reported to the District and/or Central Office.
o Understands and executes all department/district policies and procedures.
o Operates the Child Nutrition Program in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
o Attends Harmony trainings and TDA Education Service Center Child Nutrition trainings, as required.
o Maintains Child Nutrition files.
o Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external
to the district.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to organize special programs for assigned campus, and participates in appropriate campus activities to educate
and/or encourage student and parent involvement.
o Ability to use computer, including Child Nutrition software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word
processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
o Ability to analyze data, focus on details, and process accurate information.
o Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
o Moderate travel is required.
