POSITION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY:

An employee in this position provides installation, inspection, testing, maintenance and repair for all AMI infrastructure in accordance with Harnett Regional Water procedures, processes and established safety protocols. The AMI Technician II performs all duties of the AMI Technician I but works under more limited and/or moderate supervision. Tasks include: connecting and disconnecting water service; installing AMI meters; checking and repairing leaks; changing out meters; repairing or replacing broken meter boxes or parts; and answering customer questions about meter readings, high usage or bills, leaks, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

• Provide skilled installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of AMI meters
• Explains meter readings to citizens; answers questions of a general nature on meter readings.
• Inspects AMI meters for damage or malfunctioning parts; cleans meters; clears mud debris and other matter from meter cases; performs preventive maintenance to valves and other AMI fixtures; replaces meters or valve boxes; flushes lines; takes water samples.
• Conducts rereads of meters as necessary.
• Conducts special readings or re-readings; searches for leaks; connects or disconnects meters or water service; checks to see that meters are functioning properly; and reports any defects not otherwise resolved.
• Diagnose and repair a wide variety of small, medium, and large water meters
• Locates and identifies water lines for other utility companies or for new construction.
• Assists with training new employees; may serve as team leader on group projects.
• Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of facilities and work areas.
• Effectively use computer systems software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.
• Performs minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Re-sequences meters to add customers, to divide routes, or to make routes more efficient.
• Assists in the testing of water meters
• Performs basic maintenance of hydrants meters
• Assists in disconnection of service of customers for nonpayment of water bills.
• Participates in training new workers by providing technical and coaching support as well as evaluating performance.
• Investigates and resolves customer problems and complaints; helps to resolve more difficult field customer service issues.
• Works on-call and is subject to call-back work.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Preferred 2 years of AMI related work experience ;
• Or equivalent education and/or experience;

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook (Email), Apple (or
• Android) Smart Phone, and Tablets. Must have a basic understanding of computers and online computer based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms
• Knowledge of street layout and meter locations on assigned routes.
• Knowledge of the functional operation of meters.
• Knowledge of utility service policies.
• Skill in using equipment and tools necessary for locating and unearthing water system fixtures.
• Skill in using automated hand-held meter reading devices.
• Skill in performing mathematical calculations accurately.
• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
• Ability to work independently within a routine schedule.
• Ability to walk to cover an assigned route.
• Ability to record meter readings accurately and input data correctly.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to assist with training coworkers.
