POSITION SUMMARY:
An employee in this position performs manual labor work in the installation, repair, activation, and deactivation of water services for Harnett Regional Water. Work involves installing taps to water and sewer systems, making field repairs to water and sewer mains and maintaining and repairing sewer stations and associated equipment.
Hiring Range: $39,279.00ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; frequently requiring 30 pounds of force to move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 100 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, performing repetitive motion, speaking, standing, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to operate equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee works primarily in the field and is subject to various hazards. Requires working for extended periods of time, possibly under challenging and arduous conditions.

Hiring Range: $39,279.00ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Installs water and sewer taps; repairs leaks in water distribution system; straightens and repairs valve boxes; relocates water lines.
- Installs fire hydrants.
- Maintains sewer stations; pulls and repairs sewer pumps, valves, seals, etc.; clears and rakes bars and screens.
- Primes and performs preventive maintenance on sewer pumps.
- Performs general carpentry work in renovation and repair of sewer station facilities.
- Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle to travel as needed.
- Operates utility trucks to transport supplies to work sites.
- Assists in cleaning and maintenance of shop area.
- Washes and maintains trucks.
- Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the County and various regulatory agencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- No experience required;
- Or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Possession of NC Water Distribution Class C Operator’s Certification within 1 year of hire date.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina commercial driver’s license (Class A) within 1 year of hire date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles of plumbing and mechanical maintenance as applicable to water distribution systems.
- Knowledge of the geographical layout of the Harnett Regional Water Service Area.
- Knowledge of County policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness.
- Skill in using equipment and tools necessary for unearthing water system fixtures.
- Ability to perform minor equipment repairs.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, possibly under challenging and arduous conditions.
- Ability to exercise tact and courtesy with customers.
- Ability to maintain control when dealing with sensitive issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
