Employee is responsible for developing, organizing, and carrying out health education programs with and through local health department staffs to meet the needs of a community. Work involves preparing and selecting educational materials to promote specific health problems. Work is reviewed by a higher-level public health educator or administrative supervisor and is evaluated through conferences and reports as to the overall effectiveness of the program. The Public Health Educator II is the supervisory level position in the Health Education Division. This position has both programmatic and primary supervisory responsibilities over health education programs.

- Oversee health education programs that are evidence based, services and guidelines to meet the agency's strategic goals and the community's health needs.
- Assure health educators tailor their health education services to the community's and the specific audiences' needs.
- Implements evidence- based or promising practice interventions to reduce the leading preventable causes of death.
- Works collaboratively with established community coalitions addressing physical activity, healthy eating, chronic disease prevention and/or tobacco use to plan and implement health promotion activities.
- Develops, strategic alliances and partnerships with key community agencies and leaders to be a liaison to task forces and Advisory Committees.
- Collects, analyzes and updates data to identify community needs for risk groups and as part of the Community Health Assessment (CHA), the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and the State of the Health County Report ( SOTCHR).
- Preparation and submittal of grants for program funding.
- Prepares and submits health education work plans, for areas of responsibility.
- Prepares educational displays, conducts community outreach, and promotes the services of the health department.
- Develop and conduct workshops/training opportunities for professional and lay groups.
- Attends trainings, workshops and in-services as required.
- Other job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
