Harnett County Department of Social Services is currently recruiting for a Social Worker - Investigative/Assessment and Treatment to work within the Child Protective Services Unit. This position will provide advanced, professional level casework which will include providing protective, investigative and case management services for children in emergency situations who are at risk for neglect and/or abuse.
This position is for a Second Shift (extended hours) Social Worker. The typical hours for this position will be 2 pm-10 pm Monday - Friday.The primary purpose of this position is to provide protective services for children from birth to age 18 years of age including assessment of alleged neglect and abuse, substantiation of the alleged neglect or abuse as prescribed by federal and state guidelines, provide expert testimony in court hearings , and follow-up with case management and preventive services for clients. This employee will analyze situations and determine appropriate courses of action immediately or in short time spans and often under very stressful conditions.This employee will need to know and be able to utilize community and area resources. This position also includes the responsibility of coordinating agency and supportive services.
** This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or Master's degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning.
One year of work experience can be credited for completion of the social work collaborative.

Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of social work principles, policies, and practices to complete assessments and case management services related to child abuse and neglect. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources within the community. An ability to interact with families of diverse backgrounds. Applicant must possess excellent writing skills in order to complete accurate case documentation, court reports and other written documents. Must be prepared to testify in court. Must have interviewing abilities and communication skills to effectively and appropriately interact with clients, the public at large and other professionals. Needs to be able to assess risks and safety factors in often difficult environments.
Successful completion of a drug screening and criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.
