General Job Description :

Assist the Machine Shop supervisor with providing leadership and guidance to personnel in the department.
Monitor methods, tooling and work habits with ERP system reporting and by performing routine shop floor audits. Recognize opportunities for improvement and initiate action.
Foster teamwork and promote constructive working relationships through example and effective communication.
Provide in-depth technical training and mentorship to shop personnel in the proper setup and operation of qualified CNC equipment.
Interact with the Machine Shop supervisor, Production Team Leaders, and Materials Planners to ensure machining schedules are achieved on time and with best utilization of available resources.
Provide feedback on personnel to the Machine Shop supervisor for performance reviews.
Demonstrate and ensure compliance of all Beck safety policies.
Safely and proficiently setup and operate manual and CNC machine including vertical and horizontal mills, gear shapers, OD grinders, ID grinders and surface grinders.
Responsible for machining and deburring parts to meet required specifications.
Ensure accuracy, revision level and validity of paperwork, documentation and inspection tools prior to starting a job. Maintain accurate daily labor time reporting.
Perform part inspections as necessary to ensure quality of work and continually monitor parts production to ensure adherence to blueprint tolerances using appropriate inspection tools and criteria.
Occasionally assist with the fabrication of tools and fixtures.
Able to analyze and resolve complex machining problems, and recommend process and tooling improvements.
Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion and perform basic preventative maintenance activities as required.
Perform other general shop duties or assist other departments as business demands require.
Operate multiple pieces of equipment concurrently when cycle time permits.
Maintain all quality and productivity standards.

Requirements : Education :

High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent is required.

2 year technical school degree or Completion of an Apprenticeship Program is preferred.

Experience & Other Requirements :

7 – 10 years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in setting up and operating the following manual machines : Engine lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, gear shapers, honing machines, drill press, ID grinder, surface grinder, tool grinders, band saws, and welding equipment.

7 – 10 years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in setting up, proving out, and operating CNC turning, and / or milling, grinding, and gear shaping equipment, including making program edits and tool offsets and compensations.

Possess a thorough knowledge of typical shop inspection equipment such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, bore gages, CMM’s, and be proficient with all inspection methodologies.

Advanced knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), metal cutting principles, tooling, and thread nomenclature is required.

Excellent general math and trigonometry skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong desire and ability to lead others through demonstrated commitment to excellence.

Possess a working knowledge and the ability to apply the concepts of Lean Manufacturing to achieve continuous production improvements.

Must be able to speak, write, and read English and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, method sheets, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Work overtime as needed when business demands require.

Must possess basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements :

Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment includes regular exposure to manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators.
