What We Are Seeking :

Our Construction Services Department is seeking an individual to fill a full-time construction inspector position. Seasonal and / or part-time inspection opportunities may also be available.

Responsibilities :

  • Inspect the construction of streets, utilities, structures, and other public works improvements and propose corrective action, if needed.
  • Maintain detailed construction records and document daily activities, installation quantities, and write related reports. Supplement inspection records with photographs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and construction personnel, agency representatives, and other team members.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience inspecting projects and meeting documentation requirements per the ODOT Construction Manual.
  • Requires a fundamental knowledge of engineering and construction practices.
  • Be safety-oriented and have a working knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Requires good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make good decisions and problem-solve.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and remain flexible.
  • Driven to continually learn and improve.

Education, Experience & Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science in civil engineering or construction management is preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in civil engineering or construction preferred.
  • Certified as an inspector through the ODOT Inspector Certification Program.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and email software is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and / or MicroStation is preferred.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist and work outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Typical workdays may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
  • This position is full-time (40 hours a week), however the schedule may vary depending upon the contractor’s work hours.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required. Ability to be insured to drive company vehicles required.
