PIP Paralegal
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced PIP Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team. This role requires a deep understanding of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims, litigation support, and the ability to manage complex case files from intake through resolution independently. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PIP arbitration, appeals, and settlements and exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management
- Manage a high-volume caseload while tracking key deadlines, ensuring compliance with filing requirements, and maintaining meticulous records.
- Analyze medical records, insurance policies, treatment histories, medical billing, and explanation of benefits to determine claim viability.
- Prepare medical briefs, Rule 16 summaries, and demand packages to support case proceedings.
- Proactively follow up on missing documentation, including medical records, bills, and assignment of benefits.
Arbitration, Litigation & Appeals Support
- Independently file and manage arbitration claims with various dispute resolution forums.
- Assist attorneys in the appeals process, ensuring timely submission of necessary documentation. This includes preparing any necessary Post-Service Appeals.
- File arbitration demands on E-law.
- Prepare postponement requests, amendments, hearing submissions, requests for Modification/Clarification, and Appeals of Awards per the Forthright Rules.
- Research case law, insurance statutes, and PIP policy nuances to support legal arguments.
- Prepare settlement demands and negotiation summaries in collaboration with attorneys.
Settlement & Financial Processing
- Negotiate PIP claim settlements with insurance carriers, medical providers, and opposing counsel.
- Handle check procurement and disbursement, ensuring accurate tracking of payments and disbursements.
- Coordinate with medical providers to resolve outstanding balances and ensure fair client compensation.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years handling PIP claims, arbitration, and litigation support in a legal setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong command of legal case management software, including Filevine, ECourts NJ, E-Law, Forthright, and LexisNexis.
- Legal Knowledge: In-depth understanding of PIP statutes, arbitration procedures, and insurance coverage laws.
- Communication & Negotiation: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, attorneys, adjusters, and medical providers.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Education: Paralegal certification or equivalent legal experience preferred.
