The Senior Valve Technician is responsible for the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, testing, and inspection of automatic flow control valves used in municipal, commercial, and industrial water systems. This position requires advanced knowledge of hydraulics, valve systems, hydraulics, troubleshooting, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The technician will lead projects, mentor junior team members, and ensure operational excellence in all valve-related tasks.
Key Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience working with Cla-Val, or competing, automatic control valves, in the municipal, commercial or industrial applications.
Willingness to commute regularly throughout Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Strong technical knowledge of automatic control valves, hydraulic water systems and how valve operations impact a hydraulic water system.
Strong technical knowledge of piping, fittings, flow metering devices, and possess the ability to completely retrofit aging valve systems
Proven track record of servicing and maintaining Cla-Val, or competing, automatic control valves.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
Diagnose, repair, and maintain various types of valves, including automatic flow control valves, safety relief valves, gate valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves.
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble valves to ensure functionality and safety compliance.
Provide technical advice and customized solutions to customers
Perform in-field and shop testing to evaluate valve performance and integrity.
Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic, and functional tests to verify valve operation.
Identify operational issues with valves and water systems and recommend corrective actions.
Provide root cause analysis and suggest improvements to prevent future failures.
Collaborate with the service team to ensure customer satisfaction and timely project completion
Lead valve-related projects, including installations, upgrades, and shutdowns
Stay up on industry trends, local regulations, and competitor activities.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and tests performed.
Complete detailed reports and update asset management systems.
Provide guidance and training to junior valve technicians.
Serve as a technical resource for complex valve issues and projects.
Stay updated with advancements in valve technology and maintenance practices.
Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Proficiency in using diagnostic and testing equipment.
Interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Adhere to all safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and facility-specific protocols.
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as API, ASME, and ANSI.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; technical certifications in valve maintenance preferred.
5 years of experience as a valve technician or in a similar role, with expertise in water distribution and valve systems.
Strong understanding of valve designs, materials, and control systems. Familiarity with valve automation is a plus.
Relevant certifications, such as API 510, API 570, or ISA certifications, are desirable.
Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and during emergencies as needed.
