What are the responsibilities and job description for the VDC Technician III - Mechanical Piping/Plumbing position at Harris Brand?
The purpose of your role as a VDC Technician:
Under minimal supervision produce detailed constructible shop BIM/VDC models and drawings based on contract documents, design criteria and/or instructions. Shop drawings are to reflect the use of sensible and strategic practices to maximize productivity throughout all phases of the construction process. The process is typically executed in the following phases; Setup & Backgrounds, Initial Detailing, System Modeling, Coordination, and Final Detailing. Troubleshoot BIM Model queries. May provide work direction to other VDC Technicians.
Setup and Backgrounds:
- Organize and utilize AEC data for use with shop drawings per company standards.
- Organize and build shop drawing files per scope.
Initial Detailing/System Modeling:
- Generate 3D model of piping, plumbing and/or ductwork systems in compliance with building codes, construction standards, contract documents, and instructions from the project leadership.
- Route piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems per company standards.
- Show all components and systems per company standards.
- Identify and communicate issues that need clarification to the project leadership.
Coordination:
- Overlay piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems with other trades.
- Re-route piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork as required.
- Produce sign-off record drawings.
Final Detailing:
- Add remaining text, tags, and dimensions to complete shop drawings and other supporting sketches and/or details per company standards.
- Prepare final piping/plumbing spool sheets/BOM as required OR MAJ files.
- Make an revisions required per QA/QC.
- May prepare equipment take-offs and buy out item lists.
Misc.:
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
- May provide work direction, training, and/or mentoring to other detailers depending on size and scope of project.
- Contributes to the desired safety and work culture of the organization.
What we're looking for in you:
- 6 years of AEC industry or trade specific experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 6 years of drafting/design in piping, plumbing, and/or sheet metal industry or AEC experience with BIM/CAD training.
- Working knowledge of construction practices with emphasis on mechanical systems preferred.
- Proficient understanding of Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk, Fabrication, or Navisworks.
- Proven proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Knowledge of building codes for plumbing and piping industries (if drawing piping or plumbing systems).

Pay Range: $35.33 - $53.00 per hour
