POSITION:ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Massachusetts Elementary Principal Licensure
•Experience as an assistant principal and teacher at the elementary level preferred
•Minimum of a Master’s degree required
•Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff and the broader school community
•Knowledge of current research in curriculum instruction, and knowledge of effective schools research
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The candidate should possess the following qualities in order to perform the duties of Assistant Principal successfully: strong organizational and communication skills; the ability to motivate resourcefulness; and high expectations for students and staff.
JOB GOAL:
To create an environment where all members of the school community share the goal of providing continuous opportunities for each student to develop to his or her fullest potential
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Responsible for discipline of the school
oHandle all routine discipline
oHelp teachers with discipline problems
oNotify parents of student suspensions-phone and letter
oHold parent conferences regarding pupil discipline
oHandle all office detention
oCheck students assigned office detention
•Attendance
oCheck attendance and punctuality of students
oCheck attendance records
oMake inquiries concerning attendance and tardiness
•Handles daily transportation issues including the supervision of school buses, traffic problems, and bus requests
•Administer the public relations program, i.e. Open House, Parents’ Nights
•Supervise the school cafeteria
•Aid in preparation and operation of the school budget
•Assist Principal and department heads in the recommending/selection of school supplies, equipment, and textbooks
•Assist the Principal in organizing and conducting faculty meetings
•Represent the school at public functions in the absence of the Principal
•Aid in preparation of the master schedule and student programs
•Aid in evaluation and rating of staff members
•Aid in selection of new teachers
•Aid in orientation of new teachers to school routine and operation
•Supervision of the custodial staff
•Responsible for office records
•Assume leadership in programs of curriculum development
•Other such duties as assigned by the School Principal
