Position Summary

The Harris Center for the Arts, Folsom Lake College, is part of the Los Rios Community College District and managed by VenueTech Management Group. Integral to this position is the demonstration of professional leadership; respectful, courteous, and cooperative relationships; as well as affirmative, efficient, and ethical working practices.

Under direct supervision of the Director of Technical Services, the Lead Lighting Technician is a part‐time hourly position charged with the responsibility of managing the operation of the Harris Center for Performing Arts Lighting Department.

This position works closely with other members of the Harris Center Production Team to ensure day to day operations and all events at the Center are successful, while providing superior service to patrons, clients, partner organizations, donors, members, and volunteers. This job requires a positive and professional attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi‐faceted organization, including Front and Back of House teams, College partners, and other related stakeholders and clients.

The ideal candidate for the Lead Lighting Technician position must be team‐oriented, self‐motivated, patient, polite, and professional. They will enjoy working with College partners, clients and be comfortable leading other electricians. Experience in a theater lighting environment is required. The individual in this position must be computer literate and be able to learn new software programs quickly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as primary individual responsible for the set-up, operation, breakdown, and maintenance of lighting equipment.
  • Be the primary person to operate lighting consoles for performances.
  • Operate spot lights for performances as needed.
  • Design lighting for performances and clients as needed.
  • Oversee the setup, rigging, and focus of lighting equipment according to the lighting plot.
  • Install, connect, and test all electrical and lighting systems, ensuring they meet design specifications.
  • Ensure all lighting equipment is safely and securely installed.
  • Assist with inventory and forecasting equipment needs.
  • Maintain lighting rep plot and associated paperwork.
  • Assist team with build out and routine maintenance of equipment, loading and unloading of all equipment for events, assembling/disassembling all show equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a lighting programmer.
  • Proficient knowledge of Dimmers, Programming, Rigging.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and safety protocols.
  • Proficient knowledge of lighting design.
  • Working knowledge of ETC consoles including Apex 10 and Gio@5.
  • Working knowledge of Vectorworks, Lightwright, or similar design programs.
  • Able to read and interpret lighting plots.
  • Willing to work long hours including nights and weekends.
  • Able to pass a background check.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma and 2 years of experience in technical theater with demonstrated skill in lighting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Will need to become certified on the lifts at Harris Center after starting work.

  • Bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Pull, push, and lift heavy equipment.

  • Must be able to visually inspect work.
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.

Frequently (one third to two thirds total time) required to:

  • Repair electrical connections and equipment.
  • Talk and hear using radios and comms.
  • Exposed to light in eyes while focusing.

Occasionally (up to one third total time) required to:

  • Clean instruments with glass cleaner, degreaser, spray paint or similar cleaning products.

PAY RANGE

Pay range for this position is $21 ‐ $26 an hour.
