What you will do at Precinct One

In this role, you will handle the performance of administrative services for the Community Affairs & Advocacy Division and report to the Director of Community Affairs & Advocacy. You will work with a wide variety of internal and external customers to ensure administrative tasks are completed. Administrative tasks include working with calendars, agendas, meeting minutes, compiling reports, expense management. May be required to perform duties outside of the role such as answering calls, completing intake, and occasionally following up with other Precinct or County Departments. Position will require occasional evening and weekend job functions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answer incoming calls, greet visitors, and direct both to the appropriate employee
  • Manage calendars to schedule meetings, travel, and interviews.
  • Order supplies, perform data entry and provide management or team with any administrative support needed.
  • Provide administrative assistance to all projects and initiative assigned. Assist other in other CAA subdivisions to answer calls, follow-up on constituent work orders, attend constituent events, and may assist with event setup and takedown.
  • Preparing daily, weekly, and month reports on meetings, projects, and tasks using various software.
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders regarding the coordination and deadlines of the director’s meetings, projects, and tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring to Precinct One

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution

Experience: 
  • One (1) year or more of administrative work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and quickly change priorities.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft software applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to write memos, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Skilled in establishing the organization and assisting others with the administrative parts of their job.

Experience:

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Will generally perform duties in an office, though sometimes at external event locations
  • Occasionally travel within Harris County
  • Occasionally work weekends and evenings
  • This role is a standard office role which requires remaining stationary for long periods of time.
  • At times files and boxes must be transported weighing up to 15 lbs.

About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.

With approximately 1.17 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American, 38 percent Latino, 21 percent Anglo, 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races.

Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 21 parks, 10 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
