AMCAR Manager Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Mosquito and Vector Control Division Director, the Alternative Mosquito Control & Applied Research Manager is responsible for evaluating novel and existing surveillance and control methodologies, to determine their feasibility within the Mosquito and Vector Control Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing, executing and evaluating various research project in collaboration with internal and external collaborators, documents, reports, and present research findings to management and at local and national conferences.
- Oversee the Test and Evaluation section, Bottle Bioassay (BBA) and Knock Down Resistance (KDR).
- Responsible for exploring and acquiring extramural project funding opportunities to drive innovation and build sustainable capacity in the division.
- Provides expertise, training, and ensure the quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of AMCAR field and laboratory activities to include mosquito rearing and Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), and Project Premonition.
- Conducts statistical analysis on data collected, interpret and present internally and externally.
- Oversee applied field and laboratory-based research focused on mosquito bionomics, vector and disease surveillance, operational and applied entomology, and integrated control of mosquito populations.
- Create a plan of action, design, execute and evaluate projects, generate manuscripts and submit for publication in accredited peer review journals.
- Provide fiscal oversight for the Test and Evaluation and AMCAR sections.
- Other duties as assigned including responding to an emergency event.

Education:
- Master's degree in Entomology, Public Health, Ecology, or related field from an accredited College or University.
Experience:
- Five (5) years' work-related experience in applied vector and vector-borne disease surveillance and control, medical entomology, laboratory operations or entomology, required
(Work experience can include relevant work conducted in relation too, or as part of degree requirements.) - Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supervisory capacity.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have valid (TX) driver's license upon hire and acceptable driving record.
- Must complete the necessary FEMA ICS Training required for our department within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of operations within an Integrated Pest Control Management Program.
- Knowledge of mosquito biology and bionomics.
- Knowledge of statistical software.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams).
- Knowledge of insect resistance management strategies.
- Knowledge of pertinent scientific literature, experimental design and statistical analysis.
