What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Technician II position at Harris County?
As an Entry Level Automotive Technician, you will help keep Harris County Agencies on the road by providing top-tier customer service while performing preventative maintenance services for their vehicles. Through our training program, you will learn to change oil, check and refill fluids, rotate tires, test and replace batteries, inspect and replace lights and wipers, perform Multipoint safety inspections, and more. You’ll work as a team to provide fast, easy, efficient, and trusted services to our customers and their fleet, investing in the community and your future.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist other automotive technicians with the maintenance and repairs of Harris County Vehicles
Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
Assist with Vehicle Multipoint inspections of vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required
Assist in documenting any work performed
Complete web-based training and in person classes to advance to become a main line automotive technician and learn a “fix it right the first-time approach”
Ensure customers’ cars are kept clean
Must be able to account for all dealership-owned tools
Assist in road-testing vehicles and quality-check work performed from vendors
Be accountable to all dealership owned tools, and superior cleanliness throughout workspace and in all customer vehicles

Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
OR
Entry-level position requiring basic automotive knowledge and enrolled in an Automotive Program at an Accredited School
Licensures:
Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Degree or Certificate from Technical or Trade School for Automotive Repair.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
Experience in the Automotive Industry (Dealership or Shop Environment)

Must be available to work various shifts
Work Environment:
Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions and/or tight places
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs.
