What are the responsibilities and job description for the Docket Clerk position at Harris County?
- Create and assist with the maintenance of digital case files in the CSS case management system for persons placed under the department’s supervision in accordance to established procedures.
- Receives, verifies, and records address, phone, and employment status changes of supervisees.
- Receipt, verification, and recording of changes to supervision records.
- Documents supervisees' compliance with telephone and email check-ins.
- Provide exceptional customer service in person and over the phone.
- Always maintain a professional demeanor.
- Answer calls received through the department call center as well as document the department voicemail messages daily.
- Transfer phone calls to appropriate parties based on call reason.
- Verifies court activities related to supervisees and confirms court dates using automated records, court contacts, and official records.
- Notifies pretrial officers about noncompliance issues that are reported by supervisees.
- Research warrant status and notify Court Appearance Unit when clients report in person or via telephone with an active warrant.
- Provide effective assistance by connecting people with the appropriate criminal justice system personnel and locations to address specific issues.
- Provide court and court process information to the individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Interacting with members of the public (e.g., defendants, victims, witnesses) to provide information, and to act as an effective liaison in helping those individuals navigate Harris County Criminal Justice processes and helping them effectively connect and address issues with appropriate criminal justice system personnel.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of the Harris County Criminal Justice system, its processes and individual agency procedures.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with criminal justice personnel from a variety of Harris County agencies.
- Performs data entry necessary to compile the department's monthly and annual reports.
- Collects fees and reconciles collections.
- Prepares collections for deposit with the County Treasurer and maintains collection records.
- Utilize multiple technologies to interact with colleagues, the public and the Harris County criminal justice system. Maintain records and/or statistics related to those interactions.
- Set priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Check in clients to meet with case managers for initial and ongoing visits.
- Work with members from other departments to achieve agency goals.
- Travel between work locations as assigned.
- Other duties as required.
All applicants must register and take the HRT Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 85% with a typing speed of 45 W.P.M. and 85% accuracy.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- One (1) year of full-time paid general office/customer service experience performing some clerical duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to handle constant telephone use, and perform repetitive typing, ability to interact continuously with supervisees and the general public.
- Ability to type 45 words per minute; excellent interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability to provide superior customer service under stressful conditions; commitment to respect and serving the public.
- Must take the HRT Clerical Skills Test.
- Ability to obtain clearance based on a criminal history background check.
Additional Requirements:
- All new employees are required to present evidence of a TB skin test prior to employment.
