What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)
Precinct 4 is seeking a motivated and highly driven Mechanic to join our Road & Bridge (R&B) team. As a Mechanic you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all machinery and vehicles.
You must have the ability to work diligently in a fast-paced environment and have a strong commitment to safety. A strong work ethic, initiative, a willingness to learn, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. Candidate must have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are only examples of the various assignments that may be performed:- Work diligently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
- Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
- Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
- Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.).
- Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.
- Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks).
- Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
- Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
- Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
- Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
- Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
- Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle end users.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.

Education & Experience:
One-year certificate from college or technical school
OR
Minimum of three (3) months related experience and/or training as a mechanic
Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for one another.

Experience:
Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience or training as a mechanic (preferred)
Licensure:
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). (Candidates are required to obtain a CDL within 3 months of employment.) (preferred)

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is on sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials.
Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.)
Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending.
Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
