Public Affairs Intern Overview:
Precinct 4 Forward Internship Program (P4FIP), is an 9-week paid summer internship for students with a passion for serving others.
We’ve designed our program to expose students to career opportunities with Harris County and apply what they have learned in the classroom to hands-on projects. P4FIP provides students the chance to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical professional experience. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
Interns will create a community to help support their personal and professional development throughout the summer as they launch their career. Interns will work with a mentor, form relationships with other interns, and engage our Senior Leadership Team.
The Communications Intern will support Precinct 4’s Communications Team by assisting with the development and distribution of content across various platforms to enhance Precinct 4’s public presence and engage Harris County residents. The role offers hands-on experience in media relations, content creation, and strategic messaging in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Content Support: Assist in creating and editing a range of communications materials including press releases, social media posts, newsletters, brochures, and promotional campaigns to ensure consistent, engaging messaging that aligns with Precinct 4’s voice.
- Policy and Style Guide Maintenance: Collaborate with the Communications Manager to review, update, and maintain the Precinct 4 style guide and precinct-wide communications policies, adhering to AP Style and internal guidelines.
- Media Relations: Provide support in preparing responses to media inquiries, developing media outreach plans, and assisting in the organization and planning of crisis communications as needed.
- Project Collaboration: Work with the Communications team to develop interpretive materials, video content, and other creative assets that showcase Precinct 4 programs, services, and community initiatives.
- Data and Analytics Support: Assist in tracking communications metrics and analyzing data to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and outreach efforts, contributing to strategy adjustments as needed.

Internship Requirements:
Currently enrolled in an educational institution and working towards an undergraduate degree
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point.
Minimum GPA of 3.0
