Position Overview
Responsible for the general construction work required for construction, renovation, and repair and maintenance in designated County buildings.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs all duties required to provide general construction at various county facilities, including, but not limited to painting, installing framing, fixtures, walls, ceilings, floors, doors, trim, and repairing walls, doors, ceiling, floors.
- Plans and estimates material requirements for specific project or task for general construction.
- May be required to drive personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
- Maintain a courteous, helpful behavior always.
- May assist less experienced co-workers and perform other duties as assigned.
This position is subject to a criminal history check. HONESTY about criminal record is necessary for Criminal Justice Review.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience
- Five (5) years hands-on in various aspects of building construction.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner.
- Skilled in reading and building from construction drawings.
- A valid Texas Driver’s License to conduct County business.
- Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials, and be skilled in the care and use of carpentry tools.
- Maintains a courteous, helpful behavior always.
- Self-starter possessing interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
- Ability to receive CJIS clearance, pass a security check and a drug test, as required.
- This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
