What you will do at Harris County Precinct 2
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Operations, the Sports Manager oversees and manages Precinct 2’s concessionaire program which includes multiple contracts with sports leagues, and precinct partnerships. The Sports Manager will be responsible for gaining in-depth knowledge of various contracts, ensuring contract terms and conditions are met, and maintaining effective relationships with concessionaires, and Precinct 2 staff.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of the Precinct 2 Concessionaire Program which includes multiple contracts with sports leagues and other precinct partners including community service program.
- Ensures implementation of Precinct 2 standards, and quality control measures that support equitable delivery of the very best in recreation opportunities to all precinct constituents.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with concessionaires, precinct partners, and precinct staff.
- Routinely performs site visits at contracted locations throughout the entire precinct. Walks entire site and shares observations with concessionaires, and precinct staff.
- Routinely attends after-hour games, tournaments, and events to observe operations and monitor contract compliance. Addresses safety-related, and other concerns within an appropriate time-frame.
- Performs annual evaluations of concessionaire operations, submits reports to precinct staff, and reviews evaluation reports with concessionaires.
- Creates and maintains accurate records of all concessionaire agreements in a shared database including all contract-related correspondence, documentation, financial statements, and other relative information. Submits concessionaire program reports as required.
- Staff lead in support of expanding and improving the concessionaire program and identifying potential partners. Serves as the point of contact for concessionaires. Addresses concessionaire inquiries in a timely manner. Staff lead in support of addressing contract-related issues.
- Keeps on-site park managers informed of contract status and ensures park managers are aware of contract terms and conditions for concessionaires operating at their specific parks.
- Attends concessionaire, and/or sports league board meetings as needed.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Parks & Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure Services, Public Administration or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in parks and recreation programs and/or operations
- Knowledgeable of recreational sports programming methods and practices.
- Must possess strong leadership skills and exercise initiative and independent judgment to develop and implement programs.
- Excellent communication and writing skills and competent in email usage and etiquette to effectively communicate both operational and project information.
- Efficient in using Microsoft software products such as PowerPoint, Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working as part of a team to meet deadlines, collect and analyze data/trends, make recommendations, and formulate response strategies.
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
- Must be able to provide clear communication of proper rules and regulations to program participants.
- Requires ability to work with others and perform in a cross-functional team approach.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Regular - Full-time | Position, requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.
Hours may vary based on needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.

- This position operates in both a clerical, office setting and outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Noise level in the work environment is usually average.
- This position will sometimes involve significant physical demands related to lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted; carrying materials / supplies; climbing, reaching and bending. Otherwise, this position operates in a clerical office setting.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
