What are the responsibilities and job description for the Merchandising Analyst position at Harris Teeter?

Summary: Supports the Analytics Team by developing and delivering merchandising, pricing, financial, and customer behavior reports and analyses. Maintains data quality through the development and monitoring of business processes.
Essential Duties:
  • Publish and maintain business intelligence reporting, dashboards, and scorecards to accurately identify trends and opportunities across the following areas:
o Business performance versus forecast and goals
o Profit performance versus forecast and goals
o Operational controls
o Promotional planning and evaluation
o Space planning and management
o Product Assortment planning
o Inventory planning and control
o Vendor reporting/projects
o Customer behavior and category interaction
  • Gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations for the areas mentioned above.
  • Conduct special projects to analyze complex operational and financial actions and prepare recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action for the merchandising team.
  • Recommend cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies.
  • Establish and/or maintain databases and support IS in developing databases of pertinent information for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts.
  • Understand how data is captured and maintained, specifically as it relates to business activities and processes.
  • Assist the Analytics Team in maintaining data integrity associated to Merchandising applications, databases and associated reporting.
  • Coordinate the setup process for new vendors as needed
  • Maintain documentation of new items planned for upcoming resets and fees associated with resets.
  • Assist with billings associated with product resets and vendor portal fees.
  • Support the maintenance and new vendor set up for Vendor Portal
  • Assist with forced distributions of product to support pricing & promotional initiatives.
  • Ability to utilize analytic tools to clean, prepare and blend disparate data to present appropriate visualizations.
  • Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.

Educational Experience:
Required: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent or a minimum of three-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Education / Experience in areas of Accounting/Math/Computer Software Development
Preferred: Completion of MBA or Master level course work

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite tools for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and presentation software; Be able to grasp the purpose and concepts of the merchandising applications to support research for analysis assignments.

Daily activities include email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software and using query tools. Experience with general database concepts and understanding of standard query language and utilizing data visualization software like Power BI are essential.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
