REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master’s Degree in social work from an approved social worker preparation program. Current/valid South Dakota Social Worker Certificate.
Experience: None. Previous experience in school setting preferred.
Physical Requirements: Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, and turning. Some lifting up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication, strategic planning, problem solving, organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet. Ability to keep information confidential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Serves as a liaison between school, family, and community.
- Works with students, parents, and school staff members to intervene in personal/social concerns.
- Collaborates and consults with the Department of Social Services and other agencies.
- Assists students and families in accessing appropriate agencies and services providers.
- Provides support for parents to communicate effectively with school staff members.
- Arranges educational opportunities for parents.
- Intervenes when excessive absenteeism and truancy is prevalent.
- Provides staff development and consultation to support student success.
- Conducts home visits.
- Reports suspected child abuse/neglect.
- Attends required meetings.
- Prepares reports as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
