The Office of the Harrison County Commission is accepting applications for a full-time benefited position of Maintenance and Janitorial worker . Individuals will be responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks involving the general cleaning, maintenance and minor repair of buildings, equipment, and property owned and operated by the Harrison County Commission. Successful candidate should be able to perform the functions listed in the job description. Administrative staff with Harrison County will perform a background investigation on successful candidate.

The Harrison County Maintenance and Janitorial worker is responsible performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks involving the general cleaning, maintenance and minor repair of buildings, equipment, and property owned and operated by the Harrison County Commission. The Harrison County Maintenance and Janitorial worker reports directly to the Director of Maintenance.

The Harrison County Janitorial and General Maintenance Worker is responsible performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks involving the general cleaning, maintenance and minor repair of buildings, equipment, and property owned and operated by the Harrison County Commission. The Harrison County Janitorial and General Maintenance Worker reports directly to the Director of Maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The list of essential functions is intended to be representative of the tasks performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed here if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the interior and exterior of the General Services Building (GSB) by performing the following tasks daily or as often as necessary: emptying all trash receptacles, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, mopping, sweeping, stripping and waxing tile floors, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, replacing light bulbs, painting, clearing clogged drains and minor plumbing repairs, refilling soap dispensers, replenishing lavatory and kitchen paper dispensers, disinfecting, and other janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Proficiently and safely use snow removal equipment such as shovels, plows, and snow blowers.
  • Monitor and inspect public areas for safety hazards. Ensure floors and stairwells are free from debris.
  • Routinely inspect exterior walls and sidewalks for damage or vandalism, graffiti, etc.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Ensure cleaning supplies are in stock and coordinate supply orders with Commission staff
  • Support the County’s policies, goals and objectives and work with the Harrison County Commission administration and staff to successfully achieve those goals.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

One to three (1-3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field. Experience in a Municipal setting preferred but not required. Professional demeanor and good communication skills (verbal and written). A valid driver’s license is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Familiarity with applicable Federal and State laws, Occupational Health and Safety Association (OSHA) regulations, and Harrison County rules, regulations and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining large office buildings.
  • Ability to create and sustain a safe and well-maintained environment
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide various units of measure
  • Excellent time management skills and a strong work ethic

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment will be varied. While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to dirt, pollen, odors, fumes, and various other airborne particles. Employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, or in high or precarious locations. Employee will frequently be required to: walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and carry. Employee must be able to talk, hear, taste and smell. The duties of this position require the ability to lift and/or move fifty (50) pounds. Occasionally, employee may be required to lift and or/move one hundred (100) pounds or more. The noise level in the environment is usually in a normal range.
