Job Summary / Objective :
The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day management of HCCH fiscal, material, and information resources, ensuring compliance with HCCH policies, CMS Conditions of Participation, and Missouri state laws. The Controller exercises independent judgment in implementing fiscal policies and oversees financial operations, external audits, and reporting. This role directly supervises the Accountant, Revenue Cycle, and Health Information departments and provides key financial updates to the COO and Board of Directors.
Essential Functions / Duties / Responsibilities :
- Direct day-to-day financial operations in compliance with HCCH Board policies, CMS Conditions of Participation, and Missouri state laws.
- Ensure services are performed efficiently, effectively, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Develop and implement financial strategies in collaboration with the COO, CNO, and CEO to improve hospital business performance.
- Coordinate and oversee external audits and financial reviews.
- Provide direct supervision to the Accountant, Revenue Cycle, and Health Information departments.
- Lead by example to foster professionalism and teamwork across financial functions.
- Support departmental staff as needed and ensure adherence to hospital policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present the annual operating and capital budgets for approval by the COO and Board of Directors.
- Assist with the preparation of financial audits and cost reports.
- Provide regular financial status updates to the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Interpret complex financial data to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
- Ensure financial operations align with CMS Conditions of Participation for Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Health Clinics.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend strategic initiatives.
- Maintain effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication with physicians, practitioners, staff, and patients.
- Collaborate with other departments to address operational challenges and drive solutions.
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Maintain proficiency in healthcare financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the COO or supervisors.
