Job Summary/Objective
Performs routine testing in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, and cytology. Responsibilities include conducting qualitative analyses, operating automated laboratory equipment, and maintaining laboratory stock. May collect specimens from patients and ensures detailed records of all tests performed are accurately maintained and reported to authorized personnel.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory testing in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, and cytology following established protocols.
- Conduct qualitative determinations, such as analyzing sugar levels in urine, performing blood cell counts, and separating plasma from whole blood.
- Operate and tend to automated laboratory equipment, including diluting-titrating machines, blood cell counters, and spectrophotometers.
- Prepare sterile media, solutions, reagents, and stains as needed for testing and research.
- Incubate and monitor cultures, ensuring adherence to proper laboratory procedures.
- Maintain laboratory stock, restocking supplies, and managing inventory to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Collect specimens from patients while ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage of samples.
- Keep detailed and accurate records of all tests performed and report results to authorized personnel in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Participate in the quality control and quality assurance activities of the laboratory.
Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and techniques.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment, including automated testing machines and manual tools.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in performing and documenting laboratory tests.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills to effectively report test results and interact with team members and patients.
- Knowledge of safety standards, infection control practices, and laboratory regulations.
Education
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science preferred.
Certification
- Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification or equivalent required.
- State license is required.
Experience
- Prior laboratory experience preferred but not required.
- Experience performing diagnostic testing in various laboratory disciplines is preferred
- Experience with quality control and maintaining laboratory records is an advantage
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, and use laboratory equipment for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to handle specimens, operate equipment, and perform precise laboratory procedures.
• Ability to lift and carry laboratory supplies or equipment as needed.
